 What will be presented on September 9th? A new iPod Nano? A new iPod Touch? Or, a price drop?
Apple has invited the press to a "special event" on September 9th. People believe that there are two major message that Apple will convey, one is that new iPod Models will be introduced, the other is that Apple may slash the price of iPod Touch to $199. Currently, 8GB iPod Touch is selling for $299, which is even more expensive than iPhone.
Slashing price to keep the market share is not new to Apple. iPhone was originally offered $599 and then slashed to $299. iPhone 3G is offered even cheaper, $199. Cheaper iPod and iPhones, together with the new models, will be right on time for holiday seasons in November and December. More importantly, these slick stylish devices help to bring people to iTunes, the online music store. It is said that Apple's sale of digital music were up more than 30% this year. In addition, the release of iPhone SDK resulted in millions of downloads of new Apps for iPhone and iPod Touch, which is another stream of revenue of the iTunes store.
Which iPod Model to get? I am aiming for a new model of iPod Touch, whatever the price is, I will get it! |
